Item: Zuni Black Manta Blanket to be worn either as a dress or shawl . There appears to be a small amount of indigo dye used along some seams and edges.
Culture/Tribe: Zuni Pueblo, New Mexico, USA
Date/Circa: Late 19th c. (circa 1870s-1880's)
Size: 50" x 42 1/2"
Materials: Handspun wool
Description: With fine diamond twill panels on top and bottom with central diagonal twill weave panel; with a small amount of indigo dyed used in the selvage, top and bottom cords as the cords separating the three panels. With fold lines typical of a Manta that was traditionally stored in a Kiva box. Very tightly woven.
