Description
Antique Native American, Navajo dance rattle. It’s quite remarkable.
*****This is considered an Antique.
It is not meant to be used or played with, but rather, for display. Consider this delicate, although it’s in very sturdy good condition.
The handle has minor chipped, ivory paint coating.
This is an old item. There are signs of cosmetic wear. Loss of some paint, fading of color, cosmetic dents or scratches, are to be expected.
The bells are attached to a very extraordinary material. The base materialis Woven!
The stitches are very old. They tack down the weave.
*It was then coated with an unknown material. The weave is extraordinarily tiny. The pattern extraordinary and small. This can be seen in pictures.
I believe the woven material on this Rattle is Much older, and passed down through the generations. Ultimately it was fashioned into a rattle. Handles like this, are common for different kitchen utensils. A marriage of pieces.
It May have been used in many dancers.
Every stitch is a handwoven & twisted once.
I think The material that is holding bells down, is much older than when the rattle was made. I older.
You can see the stitching, the weave, with chipped coating in many places.
The rattle May very well be much older, with marriage of pieces. I am not an expert, and this is the only hand held dance rattle I’ve had.
