Antique Navajo Crystal Rug with Diamond Motifs
c.1890-1900
87 1/2" x 51"
Hand-spun Wool in Natural Churro-Merino sheep wool colors of Natural Dark brown ,Cream White, Tan,and hand carded grey plus Rust (orange overdye oif grey) and Hand dyed Red-Orange Yarn
The wool is smooth and heavy and marks the transition from weaving softer blankets to heavier floor weight rugs. Prototype attempt at creating a border element which was a new addition to weavings as the rug period started as all previous pre-1890 blankets had been woven without borders.
Just back from professional gentle handwash cleaning
and ready for display on wall or furniture or use on floor
